Livelihood Officers

Relief, Reconstruction and Development Organization (RRDO) is a local NGO registered under the NGOCoordination Act 1990 with its head office in Nairobi and Field Office in Dadaab. 

RRDO is currently implementing Environment,Livelihoods, Water & Sanitation Programmes in Dadaab District, North Eastern Province.

RRDO with funding from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) under the Kenya Drought Recovery Program, wants to implement a one year Dadaab/Fafi Host Community Livelihoods Project with the goal; that drought affected pastoralists have their livelihood assets protected from the effects of drought. 

This Project will directly target 1,744 drought affected households in Fafi and Dadaab Districts of Garissa County. 

The project will support restoration of livestock assets and provide training to pastoralists in animal health, improved animal husbandry practices and marketing. 

In order to implement the project successfully RRDO wishes to advertise the following positions based in Dadaab:

2 Positions

Reporting to: Project Manager

Duty station: Dadaab

Deadline for application: 13th June 2012

Key Responsibilities
Planning, implementation and reporting of the project activities in accordance with the project document.
Ensure that beneficiary participation is enhanced in all phases of the project.
Promote and ensure the participation of women at all levels and in line with the Project requirements
Anticipate, plan, initiate and share in the further development of the current project.
Responsible for Planning, coordinating and conducting community trainings, awareness and assessments.
Conduct research and surveys related to livelihood interventions according to community needs assessment.
Liaise with the Project Manager and other staff in implementing the comprehensive project activity plan covering the time frame of the project proposal.
Mobilize communities and local markets to identify the livestock owners and vendors for each community.
Conduct regular monitoring, evaluation and assessments against project objectives and outputs.
Produce accurate and timely reporting of activities to the Project Manager on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
Maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with RRDO staff team, CRS and with communities
Work closely with the community, DLPO, DWO AND DVO to identify the most vulnerable households to be targeted, using a transparent, criteria-based process
Prepare monthly/Quarterly narrative and financial reports based on CRS guidelines
Participate in the Identification and training of Community Based Animal Health Workers on Livestock Emergency Guidelines
Participate in distribution of vouchers to beneficiaries before the livestock fairs
Work with relevant stakeholders in the preparation of the livestock fair
Continuously monitor the work of the CAHWs during the project period
Mobilize traders, vendors and beneficiaries to effectively participate in the market fairs
Identity and participate in capacity strengthening for WUAs in the respective project areas
Continuously monitor the work of the WUAs and water technicians during the project period
Document best practice and the challenges encountered during the project period and promote learning.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Degree in BSc with specialized qualification in livelihoods/food security, marketing and project management.
At least 3 years experience in livestock based livelihoods systems in an NGO environment.
Demonstrated experience in community mobilization & households surveys.
